Car rental: front footwells soaking

Currently in Portugal with a Nissan Qasqai rented for the week.

Today is the second day having the rental.

Today, I found that both front footwells are soaking wet.

There does not appear to be water coming from around the edges of the footwells, it appears to be coming from beneath.

We have the air con on in the car whenever we are driving.

We are a family of 3 including a 9-month old child.

Should I continue using the car, or return to rental company?

Should I stop using the air conditioning?

sounds like the heater matrix, see if you can spot a residue on the inside of the windscreen, switch off the air-con.

Anyway regardless you should phone the rental company and return it.

Thank you. Contacted the car rental company and they will give me replacement car in next half hour.

That happened to me in Italy years ago with a Micra.
I phoned the rental company and got a very unhelpful rep. Tried ringing twice more and ended up getting the same guy. We ended up screaming at each other and both hung up at the same time.
Brought it back to Verona airport - happily only half an hour away - the following day and swapped it.
