Laptop broken after 1 year

Hi, My laptop seems to have broken after just over a year so I am wondering what my rights are. It was a middle of the road laptop but the motherboard seems to be broken out of the blue. It didn't fall or anything so do not know why this happened. Can I bring it back to the Harvey Norman etc. Do not want to for out another…

What exactly happens when you try to turn it on?

And tell us what laptop it is, make and model. Generally speaking, electronics should have a 2 year warranty. So you should be able to return it to Harveynorman's and get them to repair it if there is a hardware issue. That being said, they may be reluctant to do this straight off the bat, there might be a bit of back and forth trying to get them to play ball.
