P20 Pro or S8

My Galaxy S5 has just about given up the ghost. Battery is fecked, screen cracked and it's taken to switching off on its own.
Its a company phone so have been given a choice of a few Models. Budget isn't huge.
I was thinking either Huawei P20 Pro or and S8. I want to stay android. Any opinions on the phones above, Im swayed toward the P20 just for change sake but would it be a pain transferring everything over? Thanks.

P20 pro in every aspect bar headphone jack. If that bothers you.

I hadn't spotted that! Yeah I use the headphones a bit alright. Not a deal breaker though.

I heard a lot of bad things about Huawei reliability plus I hate their skin so I’d go Samsung if it was me.

Read about the trouble people had with nexus 6p which is made by Huawei.

p20 pro is a much more recent phone with a much better camera.

I'd go with that. Haven't seen too many complaints about it.

screen is bigger also (although not a huge phone).

you wouldn't notice that much in the way of changing in terms of the OS - both android except different companies. the huawei android skin less intrusive than samsung

Is that the only downside ?

My upgrade is here and i was going to go for the S9 Plus at €299 (I'm with Three and won't be changing network)

I can get the P20 Pro for €99

The headphone jack is not an issue. You get an adapter with the phone.
Or get bluetooth headphones - I got a pair on amazon for €15.

Well there's no memory card slot, but there 128GB built in and Cloud options these days if you need it. Samsung UI vs Huaweis. Try them both out.

I'm actually after seeing I can get the Galaxy S9 for the same price as the P20 Pro. Decisions decisions!!

Might go with the Huawei just for the change!

I've had about 4 samsungs in a row, I'd probably do the same. Pity about the poxy headphone jack.

Was about to take plunge with a 9....does anyone know how easy it is to move music etc from an iPhone to Pro20 (I know Samsung have a way of doing it) does the Pro20?

have you considered other phones, i have the oneplus 6 , love the phone , has headphone jack, and battery can last 2 days if used lightly, or 1 full day if used hard

Just out of interest, which ones did you go for and are you pleased with them ?. Delighted with the phone and lack of headphone jack wasn't an issue until i wander to listen to something and charge the phone at the same time

    These ones.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B078C6FSN4/

They are £19.99 now, but were £14.85 when I got them.

I'd go for the Samsung for the software alone. Huawei's is like Samsung's a few years ago when everyone used to give out about it.

The P20 Pro is a world apart from previous Huawei, I've been Samsung for years but absolutely love the P20. It's fast, great storage and a battery that goes on forever. Camera is sensational.

Just out of interest, I work for Vodafone in Head office and when I went to change asked the guys testing phones in the lab what to go for as I was looking at the S9+ and all three of them said P20 Pro !

I went with the P20. Only have it a couple of days. Very impressed so far. A big step up from the S5. Camera looks super. I'm a bit pissed that you can't charge it and use headphones at the same time, I usually listen at night in bed. didn't cop it at the time!! but I think there is an adapter made by Sony that can do the job.

I made a bit of a job getting all the data and apps across, but there was an app on it to do it that I only realised when I was nearly done.

The only way around not being able to listen while charging would be to get some wireless/bluetooth headphones.
