    Hi,

A week ago i have requested to exchange my full EU licence for full irish licence. The guy there told me it could take up to 6 weeks to get it delivered. I was wondering your experience when you have been exchanging it, did it took that long? Is there any chance ill get it sooner? Coz meant to be driving outside ireland in few weeks but with that receipt can only drive in ireland :(

    thanks.

I think it depends on which country your licence originated from. I think the licencing authority have to make sure everything is in order with the issuing authority.

I changed my Spanish licence a few weeks ago and it took two or three weeks to come back. However, my licence was originally issued here and then transferred to a Spanish one, so they told me that it would probably be a quicker process.

For what it's worth, I think it took about 2 months when I initially changed it from Irish to Spanish.

It can vary greatly. I think if there are no complications it can be as quick as the 10 day mark alright and the fact that they're turning them around as quick as this is a good sign. However, much of it depends on how quickly the foreign authority can turn it around.

I was wondering, did you need to have a medical examination(eyesight, etc.) for exchanging from an EU license?

I didn't anyway. There are some guidelines on their website which indicate those people that do have to.

no just bring proof of address, your old licence, 55e, and filled out form.
the need for glasses for driving is indicated on your old licence thus no need to do anything there.

wooohoo just got a text from NDLS that they have dispatched my licence so it was actually quite quick and should be home between 3-5 days!!!:P
