Is there a register of qualified / trained plumbers?

I know someone whose landlord used a relation to 'repair' a leaking toilet, landlord claims he's a qualified plumber (the "plumber" works in a totally different industry). Toilet leaked again shortly afterwards. Landlord is blaming tenant!
Is there anyway of checking if the guy was legit before he's allowed back into house again - issues with the heating system now.
So is there a register of plumbing tradesmen that can be checked by an ordinary joe?

No there is no register for the public to view. I think you will find that you have no say in letting the landlords agent into the house.

Many bad landlords get a mate or handyman to do jobs in rented accommodation. Even worse are the DIY warrior landlords.

For the most part the worst that can happen is that they do a bad job. My concern is when they start messing with gas appliances (they need to RGI) or the fuseboad (they need to be RECI). I'm in rented accommodation on a daily basis and it still supprises me how many smoke alarms have the battery taken out by the tenants or have no carbon monoxide alarm. You are much more likely to need these things if you have a cheap landlord than the average household

Fair enough, thanks for your comment.
