This might be more appropriate in the housing/accomadation section, but id be interested in what the contributors of this forum would advise.

Is there a dead weight loss in having unused space in a home?

Wondering if I buy a cheaper house and invest the money saved on the stockmarket and earn dividends.

Or is there no deadweight loss, as if i buy a more expensive bigger house, even if i dont really use all the space, it will increase in value anyway

No one can give you a straight answer. It depends of your age, situation, your current investments, etc..

Just onw point: you assume that the price of the house will go up which may not be the case when you need to sell.
