Microsoft Word - How to stop it superscripting?

    Word 2010/Windows 10

I'm having a problem with Word 2010 superscripting the first number I type. Not alone does it superscript it, it does so in another font! Then the typing on that line continues in the new font. Very annoying.

All subsequent numbers are fine - Word does not superscript them.

I have the following Preferences set:

File/Options/Proofing/AutoCorrect Options/AutoFormat/Replace 1st Ordinal with Superscript is NOT ticked.

File/Options/Proofing/AutoCorrect Options/AutoFormat As You Type/Replace 1st Ordinal with Superscript is NOT ticked.

    But, it still does it.

Any idea how to stop this happening?

    Thanks.

    D.

Is it as you start document/paragraph with number or anywhere in mid sentence?
Is it new document or existing?
    Do you use custom template?
Did you had issues / modified Normal.dotm recently
Is there specific pattern - number right after specific letter(s), etc.?
Is it same if start Word in safe mode?

Do virus / malware scan just in case.

    Thanks for the reply.

    It is simply this......

If I type the number 1, it appears on the screen as 1 and in the correct font.

As soon as I click the space bar, Word changes that number 1 to a superscript 2 and changes the font from my default font to Calibri.

If I type ANY other number and click the space bar, the number stays as it should.

It ONLY happens with the number 1.

    Weird!

    Thanks.

    Go File>Options>Proofing>"AutoCorrect options..."
Under "AutoCorrect" tab in "Replace text as you type" table scroll and see if there is entry for: Replace: 1 | With: 2*
If present, highlight it and click "Delete" button below table.
Click OK twice to save changes and escape "options" window.
    Check if it works.

    Smuggler,

    You're a genius! ;)

    That was the problem.

Absolutely no idea how that happened. Only I use this computer.

    Anyway, sorted now.

    Thanks!

This could be done as a joke , but if you say no one has access to your PC i have no idea how else it could get this setting.

    No idea.

I certainly didn't drill down into that menu and set that up.

So, unless there's a keyboard short-cut that I might have pressed accidentally, I'm clueless.

    Thanks.
