Which will stand the test of time...walnut or oak furniture? Our house is not big and thinking walnut will darken it but it does look rich though

To stand the test of time, oak.

It ages better, And is and always been timeless, However each to their own.

Oak is stronger wood and doesnt loose as much colour over time

I was looking at Oak furniture recently... beds, tables etc... However, one of the beds was made of Oak and Oak veneer. The bed had a large ""solid" headboard and foot board.

I asked the salesman about this and he said its the only way to make large one piece items like this.

Is a veneer like this ok? i am just thinking about scratches in the head or foot board. is there anything to worry about, is this type of product a bad idea? a friend had a table that had an oak veneer surface and he ran into trouble with it.

    thanks

You'll be doing well to get a solid oak bed to be fair.
Oak is about €70 per meter cubed
Beds tend to have a lot of waste in the design.

I would be safe to say 80-90% of oak beds for sale in ireland are veneer headboard and footboard.

Dont let that put you off though. Its just the done thing these days
