DIY Hot Water and Heating - OpenHab or other

Hi I was wondering have many people attempted a heating and hot water control outside nest and even sonoff. Thought I saw someone on here using OpenHab and Homeatic for heating control. Was wondering what experience was like? Thanks

If you are comfortable with DIY then have look at https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057804603
If your boiler/zone valve are close proximity then all you need is raspberry pi and 1x 4 channel relay for controlling zone valve and 1 x 1 channel relay to control boiler.
