    Hi,

Does anybody have any idea where I could source an Intel Edison? I’m not having much luck online as I believe they’ve been discontinued.

I’m willing to pay good money for one.

    Thanks!

I don’t see any Intel Edisons on that link. Just books and explorer boards. Am I missing something? I have been looking on EBay but haven’t seen an actual Edison for sale.

Intel gave out thousands to colleges across the country. Id say none are being used.

Dundalk IT definitely have some, so call around.

Any reason why you need the edison? They are a bit of a power hog and run quite hot. There's lots of other really good platforms which are readily available. The pi zero is quite good...

Thanks. I don’t want to bore you too much....but seeing as though you asked!

My son has type 1 diabetes. He uses a manually controlled insulin pump, which is great but has some limitations. I have been researching ways to improve the functionality of the pump and discovered that there is an huge open source diabetes project called #openAPS which allows users to do this.

Here’s a link with some info (sorry I’m on mobile):

    https://openaps.readthedocs.io/en/latest/index.html

It’s quite techie (and I’m not) and it seems that the majority of people use the Intel Edison as the little computer that runs the software that wirelessly connects to the insulin pump and greatly enhances its functionality.

I’d love to give it a shot and see if I can make his life a little easier.

That’s the gist of it :-)

Looks like there is an option to use an RPi as the controller instead of Edison - is there a downside to that?
