In my search for a "new" used car, ive had a few quotes and all of them include what I call the dreaded "extras"

    GAP insurance €395
supagard paint and fabric protection €299
SMART (chip and dent repair) 3 years €399
    extended warrenty €399

so its really annoying when see the sticker price and sit down to get a quote and it ends up more than the sticker price

all the above adds €1248 after a "discount"

i reckon all but the warranty can be better off bought separately if required
but even the warranty needs checking for things like knock on damage, ie one part affecting another and can also be bought separately

another thing to consider is model history, im looking at 2015 nissan pulsar and the battery was upgraded to cope with the stop start system but some didnt get changed and the battery drains much faster than normal, so its worth checking that

Don’t pay over the odds for a Pulsar, they’ve been discontinued now due to poor sales.

How much extra warranty do you get for €400? How much do you get standard?

oh i know its been dropped, im trying to use that as a bargaining tool, its a nice car though with a good spec. 2015's with around 20k miles are approx 13500.

    dual climate
    bluetooth
    electric windows
    cruise
    auto start
    auto wipers\lights\dimmer
    fogs
    great economy
    fantastic rear legroom

the standard warranty is a year, 2 extra years is the €399

I wouldn't buy any of that stuff other than maybe the extended warranty. Dealers do hard up selling of that stuff because there is a high margin in it for them.

I’d probably go the extra warranty once it was actually a proper bumper to bumper warranty

I'd not buy any of it, complete waste.

Any pulsar is going to be very difficult to shift second hand.

If you are buying you are going to need to hold for 8 or 10 years to get value.

Might be cheap now but discontinued models are a demon to offload later.

Discontinued because no one wanted them to begin with

GAP insurance on a 3 year old car?

I thought that all of those protections were sold on new cars only

The extended warranty would be worth it considering both petrol and diesel Pulsars are turbocharged. To have the same length warranty as a new one is def worth €400. Agreed the rest is probably unnecessary.

yep thats the plan buy it and drive it into dust!!

its actually a really nice car to be in, just couldnt compete with the well known ones like focus etc. ive done a lot of research and cant find anything comparable for price vs miles vs year. just need to be patient because they are difficult to shift for the dealers so theres definite wriggle room on the sticker price

Forget the paint and fabric protection. I got that thrown in on new car last year. You'd be getter off getting your own products

thats the one that puzzles me...you would think all new cars would come with it as standard from the factory!

we had that done as an extra on our last new car, 2005 mazda 2 and it was ok for a year or two and then just didnt work, lifetime guarantee indeed lol

Ignore those things. This is how they push extras on you, that you dont need.

Gap insurance on older cars does not make sense. It would make sense if you buy new on pcp.
Extended warranty would the only thing to consider. Even then, how much are they giving to you with purchase? Check as well what extended warranty covers. It might be not even worth the paper its written on.
