    Hello.
My mk2 honda crv failed the nct on a deteriorated ball joint cover.
Is this something I could replace myself or do I need a garage?
Do I need to replace the complete ball joint or just the cover?
I've done pads, discs, belts etc. but I'm not so sure about this one.
    Thanks

Leave it to a garage, sometimes the splined part sticks in the hub and it can be a right pain to remove.
If the cover is damaged for a while the Joint may be damaged from debris ingress and lack of grease , if its only a small split it might be fine.
A cover is a lot less than a CV joint, worth pricing genuine parts for these as spurious stuff can be very weak.
I have found genuine parts to be not very far off spurious and cheaper in some cases!
edit: I was talking about a CV not a ball joint.
You will need a large hammer and a big pry bar to lever the arm off the ball joint, I'd still recommend a garage as on a ramp it will be an easy job. Ball joints aren't that expensive. I'm not sure if Honda have them separate to the knuckle, or if its one piece.

Got a quote of €60 from local polish garage for parts and labour.
Seems very reasonable.Going to save myself the hassle and book it in.
    Thanks CJ.

Garage job, unless you can get a cover, pack it with grease, use tie rods at both ends, will last until grease escapes, not ideal though, years ago I used this method ,,,bobs were tight
