    Morning guys

Looking for some advice on adding some privacy to a wall that is attached to our house out the back.

My plan was to get some L shaped stainless steel and use lengths of composite deck to build up screen, 3/4 high

Mounting it is an issue on one end as don't have much wall to use and i will have to bend the l bracket to mount it

I have attached images to help as I don't know any other options and i hope someone will help

    My diy skill is limited.

    Thanks

I screwed 4x2 to the wall then screwed fence panels to that might have to cut the fence panel but thats easy enough.

I used something very similar worked a treat from Aldi they were neary 2 metre square you could mount some small hooks into the wall and cable tie them

You can't go higher than 2m without planning permission.

But that doesn't apply to plants.

So you could add a shelf-deck at about 150cm and put a long planter box on it with some evergreen shrubs. They'll shoot up to a metre or so in no time.

These brackets will take 200kg each:

The wall will fall over before they fail. Which might happen. But you could add a couple of support legs.

Best suggestion to keep everything legal.

Who's next door with the cctv camera and it mostly pointing into your garden. Did they advise you when they were erecting it and show you its coverage to confirm it wasn't invading on your privacy. I presume this is what's requiring the diving wall to be extended.

Actually, bamboo in a long planter on a table would probably solve the problem in one year.

When it grows, remove the table.

If it's a 6' wall you could be asking for trouble with your neighbour

I don't think that matters, they could still look to see if there was planning for it, and complain if not, I think

Put one of those angle brackets on your side, just above the level of the camera. Suspend a strip of that wind permeable green fabric that you use for protecting new hedges from it to the top of the wall. Fix with a baton.

Got it finished today. Nightmare. Never starting a job without all the tools. A grinder is on the list to buy. Trying to cut precision cuts with a hacksaw is painful.

    Thabks for help lads

I will take one in the morning. Nursing a painful thumb after lashing it with a hammer. Nail is black already...

It's not proper DIY until the first aid kit comes out.

Not sure a first aid can fix this thumb.
Anyway I was told by herself that I should have paid someone to do it while she watched tv... :rolleyes

Out of curiosity, how did you attach the metalwork to the wall?

good question !!! i used Masonary wall anchors made by EJOT, pre drilled hole then push them home, could hang a car off them.

    http://www.ejot.co.uk/Building-Fasteners/Products/Self-Tapping-Masonry-Screws/4H-Carbon-Steel/p/4H32_Boxed_100_s

Worked out well, but the box section of Galvanised steel looked like it was hit by a machines gun with all the holes..

Struggling to see what benefit the three extra boards bring in privacy terms, I had envisaged you going at least a meter extra in height terms or up near the level of the cctv camera.

Good clean looking job though, well done and satisfying not having to pay someone for something you can do yourself.

Camera is not the issue, problem is when i stand in my kitchen or at the back door i can see directly into their kitchen. now that direct line of visability is gone. I need to get caps fopr the top of the box steel, the push on type to finish the job
