Residents Association - advice

I live in a large apartment complex. It is managed by a Management Company composed of the apartment owners, who contract a local property management company to run and maintain the complex.

We are interested in setting up a Residents Association. It will be mainly involved in organising social events to facilitate residents getting to know each other. We don't plan to charge any fees so will have no budget. The issue of needing insurance was brought up. Could anyone advise on wither we need public liability insurance ourselves as the Residents Association?

Can the residents association not be a sub committee of the man co. Man co can appoint resident committee add a budget and existing public liability insurance should cover any events in the block but I could be wrong.

I'm treasurer of a RA (approx. 250 houses). We do several social events and have public liability insurance. It's not very dear. This year we paid €265.-
It's worth it for the peace of mind. Maybe ask people for a fiver or a tenner a year.
Councils give grants to RAs for events or improvements. When we applied we had to supply proof of insurance.

There are a number of factors to be considered.
What is the nature of planned events?
Say for example if it was a Table Quiz etc the venue where the event would be held would have cover however if you were organising a fun run or outdoor event you would have to consider the insurance factor.
Depending on the apartment complex size there may be a facility where you could have a barbecue. If done obviously with permission of the Manangement Company i.e. your Manangement Company the block insurance would cover

Thanks guys. Will chat with the Man co. And th Co.Co.
We are thinking mainly social events outside. We don't have an indoor area we can use. Mainly food events like picnics, street feast type things or other get togethers.

Great idea OP. It's often forgotten part of community these days invaluable to socialise an area.

For things like picnics and chatting no real additional insurance would be needed. The omc has general public liability so any general incident would be covered.

The question gets more tricky once you bring in a bouncy castle or the ra organises a game say like rounders or long jump (silly but illustrative only) where you become more responsible for safety.
