2nd hand Android phone recommendations

I want to buy a phone for my OH tomorrow. Just wondering can anyone recommend one in the 150 to 200 quid bracket. The one she has at the moment has 4GB internal and is 3/4 full of google stuff she never uses and she's constantly emptying caches and deleting stuff or moving it to the memory card.

Is there anything I should stay away from or are any particularly good? I intend having a look around a few shops tomorrow.

Thanks. Just had a look at the spec. Looks good. I hadn't a chance to go to a shop since and it won't be till next week now.

Oneplus One is a very good phone. Only thing it lacks though is 4G on some networks.

You won't find the xiaomi mi a1 in any of the network stores as it's not generally sold in Europe (yet). Some of the smaller Chinese shops will sell them new but generally the cheapest places to buy is from adverts.ie or from honorbuys eu warehouse, euglobalcentral. Just don't buy direct from China as you will pay customs on top of the price of the phone.

*Also when buying make sure it says Global version on the side so you know it'll work on all our networks over here.

You can add HK Goldway to that list of Xiaomi suppliers.
    Buy from them on AliExpress.
For for DHL and that covers customs.
A little bit cheaper than HonorBuy but will take a little longer for delivery.

    Some other things to consider.
The Mi A1 was last year's model. The A2 is available now. However the A2 doesn't have a 3.5 headphone jack. Also neither have NFC ...if your gf uses LeapCard/contactless payments then that'll be an important aspect to consider.

You could also look at the mid range Samsung phones on Amazon .UK/es/de/fr/it

The Samsung A6 Plus has been priced at €250 on Amazon.es recently...gone back up since, but just put a price watch on it via camelcamelcamel if you're interested.

You're buying someone else's problem when you buy a second hand phone. 90% of second hand phones were gotten rid of because the previous owner didn't like something about it. Even if they loved it but just really wanted a new one then they probably had a year of charging it every night so that will mean the battery hasn't much left in it.

For the price you are quoting (up to 200 quid) you're still not going to get a second hand recent "flagship" and certainly nothing in that category that is less than 2 years old. At 2 plus years the battery is screwed and you won't be getting much more in the way of software updates. But there are lots of great new "midrange" phones in that price range. Look at the Moto G6 Play for a start. You'll get that in the likes of Argos no problem with money left over for a cover and memory card.

    mi a2 lite I'd recommend.

the 32gb model should be fine if the person was getting by on 4gb before

155 euro. you'll have in in 8 to `10 days from this site. customs not a worry with eglobal as they have some way of shipping through europe

    https://www.eglobalcentral.eu/xiaomi-mi-a2-lite-3gb-32gb-dual-sim-with-3d-curved-premium-tempered-glass-screen-protector-black-edge-blue.html

v good battery life, decent camera, good screen, modern design. quick auto security updates as it's stock android. also in black + other colours

Thanks for all the above advice. I've decided to go for smething new via mail order or Argos. I'll sit down later and have a look through specs and suppliers. I'm used to an iphone so all this is a bit new to me.

Please ignore this paragraph, OP. Major misinformation, and a percentage pulled out of thin air.

I do agree that you're better buying new than second-hand, though. A year old flagship is still worth buying, but you'd be looking at €300-400.

basically you can get a decent phone these days for 200 euro or less but not in the shops in Ireland - have to go online.

the gap between high-end phones and good budget and mid-range ones has come down dramatically in the last year in particular. they don't look like sh1t anymore, run well and take decent photos.

you won't get the full flagship - galaxy s9 or iphone x experience but you can get a lot of it to the point that a lot of users wouldn't notice - unless you need the very best camera combo (camera hardware + software) or the very highest performance.

in fact some of the budget phones will delivery much better battery life duration due to larger batteries and cpus that don't use as much energy as the highest performance cpus.

cameras in budget phones have come on a lot in the last 6 months - in good light they will take pictures very similar to high-end phones. it's in low-light where the iphone x, p20 pro and s9 and the likes that will be ahead.

Type Gsmarena Phone Buying Guide 2018 into Google Search. It was written in January. It recommends phones in the 100euro, 200euro, 300euro ranges etc etc. Some phones will have had a newer model released since Jan.

Have a look through it and then either go for the older or newer model of the phone you like (assuming a newer model has come out since Jan)

I've been looking for a ph myself and think the Redmi Note 5 Global version is the best option. See the thread on it. Get either that or the Redmi Note 4 if you can find it now.

I think I'll go for this one. there's a fiver discount this weekend as well. That brings it down to 149e delivered. She doesn't want anything special, just a good phone. At the moment she's using a Huawei that I bought 2nd hand for 120e 2 years ago. This thing is 100 times better for just 30e more.

in fairness that's out of date now. I'd go for the mi lite a2 also xiaomi but with a more modern look, better battery life and stock android for better updates and less bloatware. the redmi 5 has a slightly better cpu but the 625 running on stock android runs at least as fast as it.

I've decided on the M2 lite.

Before I pull the trigger, just one more thing. Someone above mentioned to make sure it was marked "Global". I can't find that on the page but it gives this range.

Thanks a million. I'll go for it so. She'll have great pleasure compared to the existing one.

Thanks to yourself and the others.

    UPDATE

I went for the M2 Lite 3/32GB for €153 and it was delivered in 9 days. She's delighted with the screen size, and the speed and battery life are phenomenal. After 2 days setting it up for her and messing around with it I decided I'd get one myself. I went for the 4/64GB model and with a price drop and a €5 discount I got it for €166. Ordered this night week and according to An Post tracking it's been in Athlone since Friday night so I should have it in the morning. I've had a 2nd hand iPhone 5 with a busted screen for the last 4 years so I'm looking forward to not having to pull out my glasses every time I use it. The dual SIM is another bonus as I was going to get a cheap burner for an upcoming project.

Thanks again for all the advice.
