As per the title guys I'm looking for a recommendation for a good mechanic preferably in or around D17 but anywhere in Dublin will really do,

Friend has a 171 Peugeot 208 that's causing him some problems and garage he bought car from are not interested or are hinting that its all in his head,

There is a bit of a situation between garage and owner as Vin number check doesn't match up with the actual car details, just for the sake of clarity.

    TIA

Before putting any money in to the car establish the identity of it, could be cloned, could be stolen.

They went to the gardai and they adviced to get a lawyer which they will be seeing Monday, but I have a feeling he may just want a mechanic to verify his feelings about the car,

I seen both the vin check and the motorcheck and while the latter looks ok it's missing mileage figures and vin number, whereas the vin check shows it as being a 505 registered in Paris even though the haven't been around since mid 90s.

Out of curiosity, wouldn't a 171 car still be under warranty?

You would think so but apparently the car does not exist in the correct form so this has thrown up problems and the original garage dont want to know,

Car owner has now written to SIMI and included any proof they have that all is not well with the car and will wait to see if they suggest anything before now approaching a lawyer.

SIMI are only a lobby group for car dealers.Get onto peugeot Ireland with the vin and go from there. The vin is in a couple of places on the car.Are they all matching, have they been altered?Get the owner to look at another 208 in a dealers for comparison to his own.

Not sure if they have checked all VIN numbers, to the naked eye the car looks like a 208 but there are some panel gaps inconsistent with a new car,it has started pulling to one side and feels like you are driving a diesel ,but it was a rental car beforehand, although garage never mentioned that when selling it.

Bring it to a Peugeot dealer I'd say. I'm sure most parts guys would be curious and wouldn't mind spending a few minutes investigating it for you.
