Volvo s40 Reduced Engine Performance

My 2006 Volvo s40 was slightly overheating last week. Mechanic checked it out and found the water bottle was cracked. He replaced the bottle and while doing so noticed the intake air hose had two slits. He replaced this also.

While driving home the Reduced Engine Performance warning light appeared on the dash. I have driven the car for two days with no issue although I haven't gone over 80kph. The car is due to be hooked up to diagnostics tomorrow.

Just wondering has anybody any idea what the problem is, how much to fix and is it related to the cracked water bottle or damaged hose?

    Thanks,

    NK

Reduced Engine Performance is usually Volvo speak for limp home mode. For that to happen the ECU must have registered a fault code. You would need to have the car plugged into a diagnostic computer and have the fault codes read. These codes could have been related to the issues that your mechanic fixed so clearing them maybe all that needs doing. Alternately if there another underlying issue then they will appear again soon after clearing them.

    Is it petrol or diesel?

I'd say the dpf is blocked which also, caused the intake hoses to split under extra turbo pressure/ resistance caused by blocked dpf.

This is not strictly true. They could split due to cycles of heat and constant expanding and contacting over time. Back to the op . Get it on the machine and go from there. It could be airlocked due to the overheat.

    It's 1.6 petrol.

Could be as simple as the MAF sensor wasnt reconnected. The scan should reveal all.

Those engines are very reliable. The only thing that goes wrong with them is the odd coil pack.

Got the car back - misaligned oxygen sensor. No charge, happy days. Thanks for the replies.
