Hi there, i have been offered a job with the Roads Dept with Cork County Council. I will be taking a significant drop in wages but if i take it, i will have security and a pensionable job. I am 40 so not young but not too old where i just want to see out my last few years for retirement ;)

Has anyone here any experience with working the Cork Co Co and can they give some insight into working here. How quickly do you get bumped up salary wise?

    Thank you

You will be on an annual increment, salary doesn't move more quickly than that unfortunately :)
I've no personal experience of Cork Co Co but anecdotally I've heard it's a great place to work

My uncle worked with roads section in the Council...and loved it. Cousin was also offered clerical job with roads dept a few years back. He turned it down to take a job in private sector only to then be made redundant. Its a secure steady job with pension. Promotion etc might follow. Id grab it with both hands :)

Thanks for the replies! It’s a great position to be in but it’s a tough decision to make!

Well done, the security with the Council job is a huge benefit.
I'm on the panel myself and would jump at the chance. Best of luck.
