    Hi,

Wondering about the legality of using a uhf handheld in ireland

Looking at a baofeng to replace the cb radios for hunting and camping trips around ireland.

Does it work on channels like cb or tune into frequency. Novice in amateur radio with my only experience being cb for the past 12 years

    Thanks

AFAIK the Baofeng units are not legal here.
You can use PMR 446 radios but the power is restricted to 1/2 watt. Open to correction.

The Comreg website has details on licence free radio use, or it used to last I checked.

Baofengs are Ham sets so all users need to be licenced.

PMR 446s are the standard walkie-talkies that you get in the likes of Argos.

we used them with our kids on holiday walks through forests and they worked well through the trees and over hilly terrain.
