Is micro-chipping a cat painful?

I want to get my cat microchiped but it seems like it would be very painful for her.

Like they say its only the size of a grain of rice, but I wouldn't particularly like a grain of rice injected under my skin.

Does anyone have experience in this? She's been in for vaccinations and twice for bloods and an IV drip when she was sick a while ago. Does it compare to those injections? I feel like I'm always sending her in to get some sort of injection...

It may be a tiny bit painful, imagine getting an vaccination yourself, like seriously it's a sharp pinch... but it's necessary IMO. If your cat wasn't microchipped and got lost and someone found him and didn't know it was yours? There's a way to stop that happening. It's a necessary evil.

You won't even get a meeee ow. My two didn't blink an eye. Done in the loose skin on their neck so it doesn't even go near muscle.

All she'll feel is a pinch, similar to any sort of injection! It's like a bigger gauge needle which they use to put it in.
It won't cause her any further issues or pain after it's implanted and think of the benefits for her if she does go missing :)

Yeah, like what everyone else is sying she'll feel a pinch but it'll be the same as for injections etc that she's already had. We got both of ours done and there wasn't a peep out of either of them.

When you do get her chipped make sure and register the chip yourself and keep the details updated if you change phone numbers or address. No point having a chip and it not being registered.

I have had several cats microchipped, even small kittens, and none of them complained, they didn't even realize of what was going on.

Only one of the 4 cats I’ve had microchipped has ever complained, and that’s just because he likes the sound of his own voice. The other 3 didn’t even blink. Definitely worth getting done for the peace of mind!

    Cats are tough mofos.

When we got our current one chipped the chip actually came back out with the needle the first time and was on her fur in a drop of blood.

The vet apologised heartily and went for it again. My husband was extremely upset at the sight of blood on her beautiful white fur, but she didnt mind being chipped (twice!) at all.

Our other girl complained but she complains when you pet her so I wouldnt mind that.

My husband said exactly the same as you about it btw - the size of the grain of rice etc... But cats are tough.

It feels nice when its done that you know if they get lost and someone finds them they are linked to you electronically. Be sure to register the microchip and keep the details up to date.

Actually the chips for cats and small dogs are smaller than the standard 'grain of rice-sized' ones. :)
