Hiya. Im looking at buying a new car so looking for opinions on the above. A trader I know has 2 for sale currently, both UK imports, one with 41k miles, the other with 62k miles. Asking price is €14500 on both. Both have higher spec incl sat nav, one has leather interior etc.

    Couple of queries.

Are they reliable - Ive heard earlier models were absolute pony but that they have improved since 2013/2014.

Boot size - Im upgrading due to growing family so a large boot is paramount.

Any issues I should be conscious of?

    Thanks dudes.

If your looking for a large boot then I don't think you will find it in an Insignia.

Not huge but deep enough to be fair.

if big boot is an absolute, you won't get bigger than an Octavia or Superb.

I was not overly impressed with the Octavia Combi boot size, it's not half as big as boards.ie would have you think

At 610 litres of space, its the biggest boot in its class
    660 for the Superb.

I haven't seen bigger to be honest, unless you compare it to a Berlingo or something???

Apologies........... you didn't mention the class thing in your earlier comment that I was referring to.

But anyway.... Peugeot 308 SW – 660 litres, Honda Civic Tourer – 624 litres....... the way folks refer to the Octavia you'd think it was unreal huge for a car it's size. It just did 3 of us with a weeks luggage and laptop bags etc :)

Mondeo would be a good buy.

Whatever about the merits of them in terms of reliability and bootsize a 2015 Insignia looks really dated IMO. I know they were facelifted in 2013 or whenever but a 2015 one was about 18 months away from being replaced with the new model.

Would you not consider the equivalent sized Volvo? Especially if you want a big boot, the estate Volvo would be good IMO. More €s though of course.

Funnily enough my brother in law works for Volvo and he advised against them, wouldn't let his wife buy one and only drives one himself as its a company car.

I like the look of the Mondeo and am open to estate type cars. I test drove an i40 estate the other day, nice car but lacking a bit of poke.

i40 1.7 not great and clutches fail a lot.

A Toyota Avensis is worth considering too, won't set the pulse racing but perfect as a reliable family wagon:

The insignia boot is big but the actual opening is quite small,

What about a 2015 passat? Surely one could be imported for around €15k

consider the lily.... i mean consider boot access as much as space, some are more awkward than others, having to lift over a lip can be a nuisance and some arent perfectly square.
Also a remote boot opener is very nice in the rain!
Ask yourself how long are you honestly looking to keep the car, then reliability really comes in to play.
For that money its nice to get certain aids such as reversing sensors\camera or lane\blindspot alerts

Ive been looking at the nissan qashqai and although the boot is only around 380 litres, it has a "false" bottom, which you can lift out or leave in so loading is easy. above bottom spec models have usb charger\bluetooth for music and , and the features listed above as well as a good safety rating and reliability record

also ford are rumoured to be stopping production of the mondeo but that wont have too much affect right now

    leather good for cleaning

I don't think reliability improved after face-lift as most parts remained same. They are seriously dreadful, it will either do a million miles or break your heart, and prob the latter. I know too many people who have had serious ongoing issues with them

The poor aul Insignia gets an awful time here- I can only give my own experience of one and it was an excellent car. Had it from new as a company car, was the higher powered SRI model which had lots of power and nice spec. Serviced on the button at main dealer and gave over 150 k kms trouble free driving. Only thing that was replaced was the boot lock which is a known fault on them under warranty.
The model itself has dated rapidly though and the competition leapt ahead. Not sure the new model has been a great success as it didn't bring the game on enough from the old one. It's just not premium enough compared to the competition.
