I'm looking at importing a car from the UK. It's a 2008. Is there any way to know which tax band it will fall into? Cc based or co2??

Yes, the month of registration is irrelevant. An '08'plate here comes with CO2 tax now. The existing Jan-June 08 cars had the option to switch if it was cheaper back then, but that was a one off option to cars already registered in Ireland. They cannot change again even if the CO2 rates go above the CC rates. And new imports do not get the choice.
See attached from motor tax office
