I was at 2 main dealers over the weekend looking at placing an order for 2019..
BMW and Mercedes. Neither of them could give a price on their 2019 cars..

    1. Mercedes - they do not have any of the 2019 prices yet as the VRT bands will be changing but they hope to have them within the next month. I asked 'what about January orders' and was told that thsi would not be a problem !!

    2. BMW - Do to know yet if they are going to be offering the Sterling 9% off for January and also VRT changes not yet accounted for so not in a place to give a price for a 2019 order. Was told hat they could have any car within 6 weeks so delay on pricing is not an issue ...

I was at a Landrover dealership the week before and pricing was not a problem at all....

Anybody else coming across this at the main dealers ?

    Mike

What kind of VRT changes are expected for 2019?

WLTP - new emissions test so going to be some changes to VRT based on what the cars figures are in the new test, more about it here in this thread.

BMW have updated their prices and all cars now conform to wltp.
The new prices are on their configurator with some new models like 518d etc.
These are pre sterling offer reduced figures though.
I suppose that dealers have to wait for the importer to decide on a 191 campaign.
Presume merc are still working on their numbers too. It’s only speculation that vrt bands will change. I don’t think the government will do much on them this year as too much uncertainty in the new car market as it is.

The government won't have a choice tbh.
If they do nothing, the VRT costs will go up as car emissions will begin to be assessed under WLTP.
In order to ensure a "no change" scenario they will have to reduce the VRT bands.

If there looking at an election in 2020 they may not look to change much if they can. Other side of the election they may well do so.

So if they change nothing, the VRT bands remain the same, but because emissions under WLTP will go up significantly, the actual cost of VRT will go up.

If they make any changes it will be to realign the VRT bands to favor the consumer, they certainly won't be increasing VRT band rates anyway in the short term.

They aren't going to decrease anything. They are trying to sucker us into electric vehicles so they can start charging per km. They will loose too much income if they reduce VRT rates, so they will reduce direct taxes or increase social welfare before they do anything for motorists.

I think they should not decrease anything.
But the fact remains, if they do nothing there will be a de facto increase in the VRT paid under the (increased) WLTP cycle quoted emissions.

Emissions testing is causing an issue and delays as could vrt band changes. Lobby groups will be working overtime bending and manipulating tax bands behind closed doors.

BMW are under tremendous pressure I'd say. One large dealer has closed and sterling is an issue.

That had very little to do with WLTP.

The current proposal is to use WLTP numbers from 1/12020 and no proposal to reduce rates - because of the requirement to reduce average CO2 which was imposed on manufacturers, the realignment to WLTP (which means 21% CO2 increase on average but 41% for some cars) will, in the opinion of the adept of Finance, only lead to a temporary increase in CO2. If there’s any temporary relief it would be announced in the budget.

BMW Average €450 price rise across the range from WLTP with the M3 AND 330E dropped

    Mercedes say a moderate increase
