Buying a sky hd box to receive eir/bt channels

    Hi

I am after buying the above on ebay with the hope that I can set it up to receive the above.

I am currently using a chromecast which I am happy with but eir are refusing to budge at the moment on their 1tb download limit. With the Champions League, Pro14 and Champions Cup on eir/bt I am going to break that 1tb limit.

I already have a satellite splitter so I plan to put the 1 satellite cable into the splitter with a feed going to a freesat box and the 2nd going to the sky box. Are there any precautions I need to take? Can both boxes be powered on at the same time?

I don't have any sky cards so will eir provide me with these or do I have to go down the ebay route again?

My worry is that the satellite splitter will weaken my signal enough to lose channels. My only other option is to get an eir vision package.

I see there is an option for eir vision plus broadband for €50 per month on a 12 month contract. That is cheaper than my broadband only at the moment. Could I sign up to this even though I have 3 months to go on my existing contract?

    Thanks

What 'satellite splitter' are you referring to?
How the boxes can be used will depend on what device this is and its functions.

You really should bring a separate feed from the LNB to the Sky box.

Eir should provide a card if you are an eir broadband customer.
IIRC they allow two cards to be used .... might be useful for future.

I got an 'out of sub' card from a relative and paired that with the box and got it registered with eir.

I think it was user Gerry Wicklow who recommended the splitter. I bought it about a year ago but never used it.

Is it a "splitter" or a master/slave switch?
    I'd presume the latter?

Yes I think it is that. Only one box can be fed at a time.
