RF Modulator with Virgin Media Cisco HD DVR

Parents use Virgin digital and analogue TV (digital in one room, analogue everywhere else) but recently got multi room due to the analogue switch off happening soon.

I would like to use an RF modulator to send the signal upstairs to one of the bedrooms but I have a couple of questions

    1. Can I run both the scart and HDMI out simultaneously? They could live without the HD in both rooms if needs be but would like to have the main TV HD capable and the bedroom in SD at the same time (would also save money on a HD RF modulator)

    2. I believe the remote is RF based and not IR, is that correct?

    Cheers!

I've just thought of a ridiculous setup if I cannot use both simultaneously (and get HD in main room)

HDMI Out on box -> HDMI Splitter -> HDMI 1 to TV1 -> HDMI 2 to HDMI to Scart converter -> Scart to RF modulator -> RF Out to TV 2

Theoretically it could probably work but I assume there would be serious interference/data loss on the journey?

I use a HDMI to RF modulator with perfect picture.

    Not cheap

It also takes a second input ..... from DVB-T aerial in my case and all are good.

Presumably this would not make any difference to you
Is not compatible with Freeview TVs that do not support MPEG4 HD video
    as it outputs in MPEG4.

I saw them and at first was hoping to save some money but it appears the signal is digital so the TV would need a digital tuner (which the one in mind does not). I could get a digital receiver but that is even more expense

I think I might just go with the scart output on the box and if they want HD they can just plug in the HDMI as both TVs are unlikely to be used at the same time

If you have, or are able to add, a Cat5e/Cat6 cable from one location to the other, then there is an alternative ......
HDMI -> Transmitter -> IP over ethernet -> Receiver -> HDMI out

Those are available as a pair Tx & Rx and some even have an IR connection (magic eye).

Something like this is what I had in mind; there are many others available

Unfortunately I don't think any new wires is an option. If it was my own house I'd do whatever was necessary but the parents are looking for minimal fuss

I think the only option is to go with a standard Triax Tri-Link and if they want HD in the main TV they can just connect a HDMI and it will take over. It would mean having to remember to switch over to scart every time they wanted to use the upstairs TV but at this stage I think it's the most cost effective way
