Torn between new Octavia or second-hand Superb

Hoping to purchase a new car in the new year. I've had an octavia 12 years now, never let me down, so have been thinking of getting another.
the only thing that's stopping me is looking at the superb, but I'm not 100% sure I want to stretch my budget that much.

however I've a 13 yr old son who is already 5ft 11 and I'm wondering if the legroom might be better for him in the superb?

the other downside is there seems to be very few petrol s/h superbs out there.

    any comments/ suggestions / alternatives.

btw it's the boot/ space that draws me to the octavia!

Legroom will be better in the Superb of course, but isn’t the new Octavia a bit bigger too?

Along with more space the Superb is way more refined than the Octavia, standard equipment on the Superb is higher too but they cost more.

I was in a Style spec Superb the other day and thought the center console looked awfully cheap and plasticky and had climate control dials that you'd expect to see on a budget car. Other than that, it was nice enough but didn't have a huge amount of features being a lease car with no options like rear camera or navigation.

I believe the Octavia has more room in the rear than the Golf. If that's the case unless both passengers are very tall I can't imagine your son would have any issues sitting in the back. I'm 6'4" and can just about sit behind my driving position, there'd be more room behind the passenger seat. I usually move my seat forward a little as it's still comfortable to drive.

Personally I think I'd consider a high spec Octavia over a Superb. If you don't need lots of toys, you could go for a Superb to get the space.

Style spec has Nav, perhaps you were in a lower spec. Ambition?

It's possible, I was just looking at the configuration and the Style had the same wheels as the one I was in.

EDIT: Correction, I was looking at the Ambition. Got confused and forgot Active was the lowest spec.

Depends if you actually need the extra bulk of the Superb or not and the advantages and disadvantages that comes with that.
Superbs also come in paddy tax spec as well, so you need to compare like with like.

Definitely the Octavia isn't wanting for space and should have added the superb can be unnecessary for most wud have a better specced Octavia over the superb

Same climate controls as a golf in all the newer superb specs. Few buttons are for different things but the panels the same.

After owning both the superb is king for space. Nicer interior on the superb, much more comfortable too. Even a year or two old one would be worth pricing.

Some superbs have an issue with the heater matrix and some heater pipes rattling. Causes buzzing behind the dash and hard to sort. Run a mile if it has it...for the your sanity.

Shameless plug but it might help!

Octavia is a big car and we'll spec'd.

Superb is very slightly bigger and adds refinement. It's a lot of money though over an octavia so unless you have the cash or are going be eating up the miles not essential.

Friend just got one and we have octavia so I've been in both. I'd like a superb but its only very slightly bigger and the extra bits don't warrant the cost unless heavy discounting and above make it viable.

Lovely location knobby, really shows the car off at it's best.

what engine and gearbox you looking at in both cars?

This is an important question. I've driven past and previous Octavias and Superbs extensively (family members have or have had them) in 1.6 TDI guises. It's more than adequate in the Octavia, but I find it underpowered in both old and new model superbs.I know the OP mentions petrol. I briefly drove cousins 1.4 tsi 150 in UK and was impressed. Seemingly economical and gets good reviews/is popular in UK.
I've the VAG 2.0 TDI 150 in Leon and find it excellent all round. Wouldn't buy a Superb with anything less-subjective of course.
So for me it would If buying Superb would have to at least 150 bhp...2.0 TDI or 1.4tsi 150 (very rare here).
I'll let someone else discuss transmission..very very subjective!

the one I have now is a 1.4 and was chosen really for tax purposes, now that is less of an issue, so I would be open to recommendations.

I only live 15-20 mins drive to work so relatively short distances during the week and I would do longer motorway journeys maybe every couple of months and travel to the UK in it once or twice a year.

We bought a one year old UK Superb SE1.4tsi ACT DSG for around €22k. No.petrols at all here. It's a deeply impressive car, engine gearbox combo is amazing. So quiet and refined. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.
