Opel company car option

If you could have any car (as long as it's Opel :) ) as a company car what would it be?

It's a fully expensed company car (tax, insurance, servicing, parts, fuel) - the only drawback/limiting factor (apart from it having to be an Opel) is the 30% BIK.

    A new job. :pac:

New insignia looks lovely to be fair, but i know nothing about it, except theres a 50k GSI option now.

The best speced Insignia you can get otherwise a lift.

    This.

There's no other option. The Opel range is currently dismal.

Newish :) I saw the GSI spec - BIK would be €7.8k cash hit per year, but it's as I suspect it's either an Insignia or thumb.

Would also need to get rid of my current car (171 TT 230 BHP, Quattro).

    Astra van.
    5% BIK

    Astra van.
    5% BIK

You know what, I guffawed at first... but the more I think about it. It'd cost about €50 per month. & at that cost I could keep the TT for the weekend.

I didn't think the current Astra was crap, certainly not worst in class by any stretch of the imagination..

I haven't driven the current Insignia but it look nice enough.

The last time I got good advice on motors.ie I donated €50 to charity. Will do the same this time if I go with the Van. You can pick the charity.

Considering the BIK, I'd get the cheapest one. Or a fully loaded Vivaro/Astra van.

According to the website, he is RITE.

    https://www.opel.ie/cars/astra-van/model-overview.html#_trim-astra-van-sportive

The Sportive looks good. It reminds me of the nice MegaVan and 306 vans back in the day with the sporty looks.

Astra is quite nice to drive - had a 110ps Elite a couple of years ago for a week or so, and that was plenty pokey enough, so a 136ps version should be even better.

There's a very practical fit out in the van as well, if they haven't changed it much since the last version - had a full length cover over the load area, that folded away neatly and a full mesh bulkhead.

Been a good while since I've seen an Astra Van as the Golf has been wiping the floor with it price wise for the past few years, that's all that's been going out.

Is this why, or is there another reason, I've not seen any new Astras and only a small handful of 181/182 Insignia? I've seen even less of the SUV 'X' range.

In my humble opinion there is just better out there at similar money
Focus i30 Civic Leon better than Astra
If golf similar money they're screwed altogether

I had an insignia and hated it. First engines were poor too. Hard to shake that image even if car is better. Again i40 prob similar money, Mondeo? Kuga on current discount under 30k

I really used to like Opel cars and even sold them for a couple of years 20years ago but their current range is hopeless.
Considering 30% bike the van is the best option otherwise a basic Astra wouldn’t be too bad. Don’t bother with an Insignia, the new car is depressing bad to drive.

Personally I don't like the focus. Haven't for a couple of generations now. It used to be a lovely drive but ...

Leon is a nice car, but noisy cabin, especially with the larger wheels, and the interior is a little.. underwhelming, Nothing particularly wrong with it but

I always liked the civic until the last generation when the lifted the drivers seat into the air.. Have not driven the new one yet

I30 isnt a bad car at all but still has a way to go. Engine choice isnt great.

Golf. As someone who has owned a golf can I just say, I don't get it.............. sure they are a decent car but to listen to some people you would swear they were the solution to everything. They get expensive especially when matching spec with the competition. The interiors are bland enough and the drive while good isn't great.

Just one thing to note is that if you're going through tolls on a regular basis is that the van will be liable for commercial rates e.g €4.40 per journey vs €2.90 for a car for the M4.
It starts to make a difference if you have to wait to claim them back by the end of the month.

Do you do enough business miles to use your own car and generate a few hundred euro a month? I could have a company car in the morning but I expense my own which I see as basically renting my car to my employer and it covers the cost of it nicely for me.
It's a bmw e60 523i and I'd keep that all day long ahead of a manual, diesel, plasticky insignia much like you with you feel with your TT.

Tag would take care of that. But didn't know about the classification difference.

Actually very little business miles, will do a lot of commuting mileage though which would be expensive in the TT.

I was offered to do that too but it's just hassle. I love not caring about anything at all to do with the running of it.

Do you have the option of getting a car allowance from your employer instead? If your doing little or no business miles then you will be screwed with BIK.

Drive a caddy van for years to avoid BIK. only got rid of it when I needed rear seats for the kids

I don’t think any Opel is worth 30% BIK.

I don’t think any Opel is worth 30% BIK.

It's 30% of the price, so it's less than expensive cars.

I know how it works. My point is that I would rather keep my €4-6k tax outlay than get an Opel.

Current model Astra got fairly good reviews when it first came out.

They were doing a 1.6 twin turbo diesel 136 ps. I'd chance one of those in estate with Elite trim and leather etc.

If its just you in it then a Vivaro van????. They drive well for a van i understood.

You could try seeing why the company wants Opel.

If it's cost then perhaps seeing if the "deal can be beaten" elsewhere is an option.

Wouldnt really be into modern Opels tbh and I'm at a loss as to why a company would insist on that make alone.

Wouldn't fancy the Vivaro when there's the Astra and Mokka X van available.

I understand why it's either an Opel or an Opel. Can't complain.

It would potentially cost approx 600 a year for a fully costed car (van).
