Bought car three months ago, no logbook

I bought a car off someone I know three months ago and after many phone calls, texts and promises that he would send it I still haven't received the logbook and I can see that the ownership of the car has not changed since.

Can anyone tell me what form I need to send to Shannon and how I can get it? Is it available online? I believe it has a space for a Garda to sign and a separate space for a commissioner of oaths or solicitor to sign.

I have searched through a lot of threads here related to this subject but there is no clear answer as to what form I need.

    Thanks

(The car was definitely in his name before anyone asks, it's his, he's just a lazy prick that can't be arsed sending it.)

If you are not named as the owner on the Vehicle Registration Certificate (if the seller didn't send off the VRC for example) and there is no contact with the seller/registered owner, there is a process in place to obtain a new VRC

The new owner must submit the Statutory Declaration Form to the Department of Transport, Shannon, Co. Clare.

The Declaration includes garage certified details and the sworn date of purchase can be used as the date from which the tax is to be charged,

    no Garda stamp is required.
    No Rf134 is required.

Statutory Declarations can be witnessed by a commissioner for Oaths, Notary Public/Practising Solicitor or Peace Commissioner.

    Form is here

If your near the M50 then maybe a few toll fines or even parking tickets in the post will encourage him to get off his arse and send it off.

Thanks a mill, exactly what I was looking for.

I thought about making a few trips through the toll bridge alright but think it would only lead to more hassle at the end of the day and I've got enough going on as it is :o

That will come back to bite ya in the ass when he calls e flow and says there is a change of ownership going through and back dates thw log book. All the fines will be put on hold and sent to you when the transfer finally does take place.

With regard to the statutory declarations, you cant just print the form and send it anymore unfortunately. You need to call shannon and tell them your problem and they will issue you a declaration form which you need to get signed by a commissioner of oaths and send it back in. They then send a letrer to the previous owner asking them to confirm and give them a few weeks to reply, if they dont reply the new log book is issued to you. The whole process takes about 4-5 weeks. Its a pain in the hole of a process

I had this happen and I ended up calling the Gardaí and ask them to give him a shout.
The seller had changed his mobile number after refusing to return my calls and texts.
After the Guards did that the whole thing was sorted out quickly

I don't think Shannon entertain back dated change of ownership, you might get away with a week alright but the eflow bill could be racked up a bit before they start contacting the current registered owner about it. It's a mute point to the OP anyway as he is not going down that route.

They entertain back dated change of ownership, both online and by post without issue. Occasionally online transfers dont go through fir whatever reason and it is not noticed by the customer until tax or nct/cvrt is due which could be months down the line. Any time this happens i back date to the date of sale and it always shows uo correct.
