Acer 2-in-1 Laptop Opinion

    Need to choose a laptop for a family member. Something for everyday use, no gaming or anything.

    I think this deal that came up on HUKD a while ago might be a good choice;

    Low end i3 that is two gens old admittedly but I think for the price vs what you get in the form factor and FHD IPS touchscreen, I think it could be a good pick.

    Any opinions on this? I know I could get a better spec'd 8th get for only a few euro more but that would be a traditional form factor with probably worse build quality.

    Definitely not a bad deal at least. M.2 SSD, the processor is fine and RAM could be better but for the price range it is expected. The full HD screen is a plus, and maybe the touch screen as well. Although some don't use this at all.

    Yeah, this would be the thing. It seems, on the face of it, like a nice feature to have, especially if you take the laptop out and about with you!

    Ram can easily be upgraded though!

    The other option that I just happened to see was this for about 100 more.

    I don't know if it's worth the 100 for the slightly upgraded CPU.

    Ah I don't really see the value add there. This would be better if the price range was 500ish:

    A big step up in processor and 8GB of RAM. But for a basic user they are not likely to notice the difference between a 6th gen and 8th gen. Even if they could notice, it would be slight imo. I would still rate the one you had posted originally as the better value of the bunch.

    in my experience the touch screen on a laptop that I have is not used much. the only time I use is is for scrolling a page with my thumb (then you're going to smudge the screen) or when using the screen in tent mode so the screen is nearer you out of the way of the keyboard (not all laptops have the hinge setup for this).

    could be useful for graphic artists if there is high-end touch screen tech on it but most serious ones would be using a dedicated slate for something like that.
