Car insurance for UK Reg

I'm running into some small problems in insuring a car I recently purchased from the UK. I have yet to get Irish reg plates (I have applied), but my insurance is up and need to have the car insured in the meantime.

It appears some insurers are unable to provide insurance on cars with UK reg's as the car history is not on their system. Likewise, the insurance companies that will insure me are charging me extra (compared to an online quote of the exact same model car) because there isn't a car history on their system yet.

Is there any way around this? Can I get temporary insurance in the meantime or even provide them with my own Motorcheck document to give them a car history? I seem to be unfairly charged extra due to the time it takes to register a car.

    Any advice would be appreciated.
