I ceased an employment on the 27th of July with an old company and registered a new employment online with revenue.ie on the 23rd of July as this was my official start date .today I received a payment from the new employment (It's paid monthly ) and I got murdered with tax . It's not emergency tax as it has no tax code EM on the pay slip
Tax credits on the wage slip is 0 .. Is there anything I can do to sort this?

Yeah, got onto Revenue and see why your tax credits weren't applied.

Did you give your P45 to your new employer when you started? Seeing as your start date was before your end date, as far as Revenue were concerned you were double-jobbing between the 23rd and the 27th and all your tax credits would have been assigned to the old job. After that I suspect it was that the changeover didn't happen in time for the credits to be applied to your new job before the payroll was processed.

I haven't received a p45 from previous employment. I was under illusion that since I registered the new employment online with revenue.ie from the start that my tax situation would be sorted between revenue and the new company ?

No, without a P45 your new employer doesnt know how much you've earned or how much tax you've paid, so you'd need to reassign your credits manually, but be careful you don't move too many over, or you'll end up paying less tax than you should and then end up owing revenue money at the end of the year.

Can i 're assign the credit online with revenue. I.e.?? If not what should I do next? And thanks for your help

Nope, until they receive a certificate of cessation from your previous employer, you still work there as far as Revenue are concerned and this new job is a second one.

I don't know if this will help but I started a new job and never got my p45 from my previous job, in fact, they kept me active with revenue.
What I did was go into my revenue account and assigned all my tax credits to the new job.
My old job eventually got it together and inactivated me with revenue.

    Yeah, you can.

Assuming you're paid monthly and have 4 payments left to come in the year, and a ball park figure to reassign would be 33% (4/12) of your yearly credits. At the end of the year, request a balancing statement and then revenue will calculate the total amount of tax due vs the total amount paid and refund/bill you the difference.

My previous employment has been ceased for 6 weeks and there's an option to edit an employee tax credit or a personal tax credit ?

I am certain, pre PAYE online, I was able to get my tax credits reassigned to a new employet with a phone call.

Sure if they really suspected you were still in job A then they can just hammer that (non-existent) paycheck.

I'll go down the phone call route tomorrow but surely they would have noted that old employment as ceased over a month ago ? Through the on line system?

I'd reassign on PAYE online first since that won't involve you being on hold for 20-30 minutes.

I didn't have that option last time.

I reassigned there and it gave me new taxation figures for new employment and a 0 on all the tax bands for old employment. The figures it gave for new look ok..I'm only saying that as I compared them to tax cert from the previous employment. Now will I get back the tax I was murdered with this wage ? Or will I have to claim it end of year with a p21?

Unsure if you'll be paid extra for a few weeks/ months or will it be a claim back at end of year job.

Also make sure you get in touch with your old job to get your p45 and all that

Do not put an end date on the previous employment online. The end date will come up on record once the P45 is received by revenue. If there's an end date already when the P45 is filed, it could come up as a second employment, creating all sort of problems.

Apart from that, if you put on an end date on one and transfer all your credits and rate bands to the new employment before the P45 is with revenue, you could end up with a tax bill at the end of the year.
