Hey guys, I received my HP laptop from Curry’s.ir yesterday, it was advertised as having a backlit membrane keyboard. But upon looking at the laptop, there is no backlit keyboard key just a blank F5 button.

We have tried everything hitting Fn and F5 and the same time etc and we cannot get this keyboard to light up.

    Does anybody have any suggestion?

Do you have a link to the model on the website where the backlit keyboard is advertised?

    What the model number?

Weird doesn't look like a backlit keyboard at all.

On the underneath is there a model number? Thanks for that.

note: Not all HP notebooks have a backlit keyboard. Check the product specifications for your notebook model to verify whether it is equipped with a backlit keyboard.

EDIT: Any HP driver or software updates to run?

How would I find out if I could buy a backlit keyboard and get it installed into this laptop?

Take it back and get a refund as it wasn't as advertised. Madness to go down the route of installing a backlit keyboard on a brand new laptop.

If I was to do this, would it be possible is what I am asking.

I would say no. If there was a laptop that was exactly the same in every way but had a backlit keyboard, then maybe. But the chances of even finding the parts would be very slim. And you could end up with motherboard compatibility issues, as well as driver issues.

Opening up a brand new laptop and making major changes is foolish imo. You will likely void your warranty in doing so also. Your best bet is to get a refund due to the false advertising and get a model that suits your needs better.

On the HP, there’s a dedicated button for the backlit keyboard to turn it on and off. I’ll take a pic of mine tomorrow and post it.

No, the chassis and everything would have to be changed to accommodate.

Specific button for keyboard back light.
Part of the F5 button. On/off.
