Dublin Primary schools with modern languages

    Hi,
Just wondering if anybody knows of primary schools in the Dublin 6/6w or Dublin 2/8/12 area teaching French/German /Spanish? I know there is a German school in clonskeagh & a French school in foxrock, and teresians in Donnybrook teach Spanish but they would be too far from where I live.

There was an announcement from the department of education earlier this year that there would be pilot schemes where some primary schools would teach foreign languages. There was also an announcement by foras patruna that gaelscoils would teach one subject eg maths through the medium of a foreign language.
Has anybody’s kids schools started this or are they taking part in the pilot schemes (if any) where foreign languages are taught?
    Thanks in advance ! ðŸ™

Many national Schools each a foreign language (typically French) in 5 and/or 6th class and have done so for decades.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

The modern language initiative was scrapped a number of years ago. Schools don't have the time under various directives from the DES to teach it during the school day. Many schools would offer it after school as a paid, extra- curricular activity.

Some Gaelscoileanna are to start teaching a 3rd language apparently

Doubt many many public schools have the money to fund this. MFL initiative was done away with a good few years ago.

It's more about time than funding. Many of our staff would be well able to teach a modern language, but the DES has shoved so much into the curriculum that it's not really possible to find the time in the school day.
