Shelving for garage

    Hi,

I'm looking at options for shelving for my garage. Shelving would be for the usual items- sports boots, paint, tool box, bits and pieces.

This looks like a decent price for heavy items (e.g. paint cans etc.)- 90cm wide, 40cm deep and 5 shelves.

and something like this for light items (runners, football boots etc.)

Am I correct in saying these would be cheaper than uprights, brackets and shelves?

    Any other suggestions please?
    Thanks,
    Pa.

I have a heavy duty version of your first option in my own shed. I used OSB and shuttering ply for the shelves (using left over sheets I had to hand), much better than the usual chipboard, which will sag and swell in any kind of damp. Also I screwed some OSB to the ends (gables) to stiffen the shelving unit and provide some racking resistance (also handy for hooks etc- extra hanging space) . Elsewhere in the shed I used "Spur" shelving, with shuttering ply shelves- not cheap but very strong and adaptable to suit any space constraints.

I'm not a fan of that plastic shelving- it's cheap alright but prone to degradation over time by UV light, brittle in cold weather and may be susceptible to damage from solvents you store (think white spirit, liquid fuels, paint etc).

Lidaldi do those Amazon ones every so often.

I have them side by side in my shed and they are good and sturdy...

I bought the ones in the first link in B&Q for €28 on special offer. I've seen them on offer a few times. I have 3 side by side and they are very sturdy.

I wouldn't bother with the plastic ones.

Thanks. Am I right in saying you can't search B&Q.ie website?

Cheers. I'll keep an eye out in Lidl ,Aldi, B&Q for when they're on sale again and get a few. They were in Lidl last week (or thereabouts), probably gone by now but will double check.

I got long span racking for my basement and it's incredible stuff. Hundreds of kg per shelf.

    Got it from this crowd.

    They do cheaper stuff too.

Also AJ products are good for this sort of thing.

Buying from companies that mainly sell to companies gets you better value and higher quality in my experience.

Not sure how sturdy these are but they're cheap. On sale yesterday so not sure if still in stock.

And strangely, different shelving next week too. Looks bigger.

Have you tried to assemble these, I tried and could not, would not slot in for me. so I dumped them, also bought them in Lidl a few months back, I think it is the reason they were so cheap

I haven't. I bought some in B&Q. Looks to be a similar set up. Not the easiest to put together but did manage it on my own. Had to bend some of the little tabs slightly to fit.

Seems extremely cheap price, would like to know dimensions. Will check in local Lidl tomorrow.

    75 by 150 by 30cm.
Max 50kg per shelf. I bought 1, seems like great value.
