Business/lounge suit hire Dublin

I've two weddings coming up in September 2 weeks apart. Just attending! Not a groomsman (or groom) or anything. Have gained a good few pounds recently which I'm working on shifting but I know I won't fit well in my existing suit in time.

Anyone recommend anywhere I could look at hiring a suit for these and how much I might be looking at? I think I'd prefer spending 100+ on hiring a suit for the two events rather than buy a cheap ill fitting one (I might be wrong on this).

Sites for formal hire places emphasize tuxedos and wedding parties and not much else I find.

Apologies if I've missed a recent thread on this!

In all honesty OP, you'd be better off getting a suit from a department store type spot (ie burtons/debenhams/m&s) that fits you bang on (get it altered if needs be) than hiring. It'll be cheaper, especially if you've 2 events. Hiring a suit will be expensive enough per go (at least €100 each I'd say, if not more) so you're looking at €200 easy. Rented stuff never fits properly, so if you're conscious about weight gain you won't do yourself any favours.

I know that Penneys/Dunnes etc in the past has had a bad reputation, but honestly the quality of their menswear has improved leaps and bounds. I have a wasitcoat from penneys suiting range I got 2 years ago and it's only now starting to look a bit worse for wear, having worn it a lot. I know if I was on a budget I would rather spend less than €100 on a suit in Penneys, spend another €50 on getting it altered and know that it's bang on than rent somethign ill fitting. So what if you're buying something 'throw away' essentially from penneys or dunnes, even if you only get 2 wears out of it, at least you still have it in the wardrobe for future events if you want it.

M&S. My wedding suits cost 95, including shirt. You should have change out of 150, if you want a tie or 2 different coloured shirts.

Thanks all, M&S and Debenhams probably a good place to start. Will have a look at Dunnes again. Not sure Burtons have my current size, know Penney's don't do it.

Any other recommendations of where let me know!

FYI Burtons go up to a 54 in certain jackets (tbh if you're a guest at an autumn wedding separates might even be better and more versatile in the long run!) and a 48 waist. Their bigger sizes aren't always available in store (they only have a store in Blanchardstown these days) but if you order online their stuff comes super fast and with easy returns.

Also, if you're conscious of your belly then I highly recommend a waistcoat. Hides a multitude of sins ;)

Will look at a waistcoat then. Can I ask what you had in mind for autumn separates? Suit and different coloured waistcoat type thing?

Moreso a blazer with a different colour dress pants or chinos (depending on how formal the wedding is). If it's a tradtional Irish church wedding with all the high regalia then separates mightn't be the best idea (they can be seen as a bit more casual) but I like the look of say, a navy blazer with grey wool trousers, a white/blue shirt and a knit tie at this time of year. You probably already have dress trousers that would work, grab a blazer and away you go! I think they're perfectly acceptable for 99% of weddings and if you're not a "suit" guy, much more versatile because you can wear each element with other things afterwards. A suit jacket without the matching trousers can look quite weird, but get a good blazer and it'll work really well with jeans, chinos or wool trousers.

For example, I've a wedding coming up and I'll be wearing navy wool trousers, grey waistcoat and a light blue textured blazer with a white shirt (probably) with a bowtie. (Bowtie isn't for everyone, I get that!) All the elements are stuff I'd wear to work for meetings or for nice nights out but if you keep all the elements dressy it's perfect for a wedding- in my opinion anyway!

Fashiobeans have a good guide on wearing separates here.

Also, just on M&S website and they have suits starting at €110 upwards and a 20% off offer.
They also have a big and tall section.

Thanks all. If I'm looking at buying a new suit though part of me would be tempted to go to a menswear store where they might arrange the tailoring too rather than buying one off the rack and then going to a tailor myself - all stems from a bad experience with a tailor once! More expensive again though I guess.

If you go to M&S usually they'll take care of that for you- I know the Grafton St store has an arrangement with a local alterations place whereby the sales people will pin basics like sleeve length and trouser length. If you want legs slimmed or anything more complicated I would recommend going to the tailor directly though, simply because the sales guys know how to pin for basics, but they aren't experts in tailoring, at all. I have an alterations tailor in Phibsborough I use, she's amazing with reconstructing shoulders and more intricate bits of work.

Sorry for slightly spamming this thread with responses btw, I'm just passionate about good tailoring :)
