Legalities of Facebook Marketplace

Hi everyone looking fo a little advice. Recently started making hats and fascinators for occasions. Because I'm new to the business I decided to place an advert on Facebook Marketplace and got an order for a fascinator withing a couple of days.

Customer ordered on Thurs morning and said she needed it for Saturday week (9days). With this I then placed order for materials online with next day delivery shipping due to the deadline. Total about €50. Now today the lady has said she doesn't need / want headpiece any more.

So my question is once the order is placed is there any legal obligation for customer to buy product or is it just tough luck and hard earned lesson for me (what I think unfortunately).

Thanks in advance for any replies

If you're selling made to order items, the best thing to do is to require payment in full before you start working on the order. I'm not familiar with Facebook market but I sell on Etsy and they do a mediation so if a customer paid for an item and then changed their mind, if you can show that you're out of pocket as a result then you can deny a refund.

I think in your situation there probably isn't a way to force her to pay.

Ask for a deposit on all orders enough that covers cost of materials so you are not out of pocket.

Since you are trading online they have a right to return it within 14 days for a full refund. Getting the money in advance can't stop then returning it.

Don't even bother with FB marketplace in future, if you thought adverts or DD was bad for timewasters and lowballers the marketplace is on another level. As mentioned above Etsy may be a better option for what your trying to sell
