Hello, I'd appreciate if anyone could help with this. Is there any way to get an emergency driving licence? We are off to France tomorrow and my husband has lost his which means I will have to do all the driving.

    Be grand.
In all likelihood it will never be asked for.
Been holidaying in France for 16 years and only once asked for licence.

Best bet is probably to phone NDLS. They're the only people who could possibly help you.

Many years ago in Kildare they fast-tracked it if you brought in travel documents. But get it in less than 24 hours, probably not happening.

You have to decide if you think it is worth chancing for him to drive anyway
I have no clue on penalty points over there for this, should you get stopped

I am trying to look up the penalty. He'd probably take the risk but I'd be afraid of them taking the car or something extreme

Did you hear it from the person it happened to?

You often hear of people wandering in to an NDLS centre without an appointment and they sort you out there and then. Might be worth a shot?

Though I can't remember if they print the card for you then or post it... Someone else might know?

Under normal circumstances they post the card. I don't know if they even have the printing machinery onsite. I suspect it's done centrally.

You won't get one in 24 hours . The printing and posting of the licence is all automated now AFAIW

    Yes.

I would think this is unlikely OP. They don't print the licenses at the centre you apply through, they post them out to you a week later. You would also need to go to the Gardai and have a form stamped to say that your license was lost.

Did you check down the side of the couch...
