Hey guys, is it possible to get vintage insurance only? Or do I have to have another policy on another car? It seems impossible.

you're not wrong; afaik it is impossible: you must have a daily driver insured.

Now, your daily driver doesn't have to be a car btw............

I've had classic insurance on my last 2 bmw's over the last 12 years or so, daily and only car through first ireland brokers.

But it does seem hit and miss about who they will insure. I know a few others who also got classic insurance on an only car while others have had no luck.

It's not impossible, but i think they roll dice or something to see if they will give it.

It's so ghey how they shaft you to have a main car too. Most modern cars are rubbish!

Are you saying my daily could be a motorbike?

Sorry I'm not sure if I'm reading your reply wrong. Are you saying that you've had classic only insurance on two of your vintage bmw's without having a policy on a modern as a daily driver at all?

Yes, but only owned 1 car at a time, so had classic insurance on my 93 bmw 740 for years, no other car and limited to 6000 miles a year. and then changed the 740 to my current 97 bmw 840 keeping the same policy, But only ever owned one car at anytime.never owned a daily driver etc. It was firstireland themselves that suggested i change from a regular policy to classic insurance years ago.

But again, it does seem to be random who and what they will insure, you do need to be over 25 and car needs to be 20(was 15 till a year or two ago) and they hate jap cars.

But I have heard that people have used a motorcycle as their daily driver to get around the requirement for some companies, even it the bike is a cheap piece of rubbish that never leaves the garage or back garden. I wonder if you could get away with even a moped as your daily? Anyone tried it?

OP, you might try the Classic Cars forum, I'm sure those guys have discussed this topic.

Could you give us more details ? I am looking to get rid of my modern car as want to buy a vintage car. I have a motorcycle which is my everyday source of transport. I work 4min walk from home so no need for daily car. I spent 3 weeks looking for insurance company which would accept my motorcycle as daily source of transport but I had no luck. I am 26 and full irish license (driving for last 9 years) 3 years ncb.

    update:
I rang Autloine and according to them it's impossible to have motorcycle as a daily. You need a car in your name with tax and insurance to get your vintage policy on classic car.

My daily is a Harley, and that's what's on my policy

I have it a few years tbh, so maybe they've changed that.

    Pity if so.
