Have noticed staff working in the gateway retail park in knocknacarra using local estates on the Bothar Stiofan Road to park their cars during working hours. Has anyone had any experience of this and if so what measures can be taken to stop it?

Are the roads in those estates maintained privately or publicly (council)?

If private through resident fees then residents could use clampers, resident permits etc.

If publicly then it's up to the council if they want to restrict parking for road safety or implement pay & display if it's a high demand area but if there are no restrictions then it's fair game imo.

This was occurring in Shantalla near UHG and the Council brought in P&D.
Are you sure its the Gateway Retail Park?
There is a massive underground Car park in the Gateway Retail Park that is only ever maximum 1/5 occupied, often it is practically empty.
Would write to the Council asking what are the travel plan of the Commercial enterprises in the area are.

Talk to the council about the actual problem it is causing, and see what solutions they suggest.

Be aware that those solutions can have unexpecyed consequences, eg it becomes harder to get tradesmen to work on your housrs due to faffing with parking permits.

Title change from "Illegal parking" to "Staff parking" as there is nothing so far to suggest anyone is doing anything illegal.

Better title would be. "Commercial Car Parking in Residential area"

Yes definitely is the gateway retail park.. I have a feeling it may be from the side of aviva, rsa etc... The estate in question is maintained by the council only in the fact that they cut the grass once a year... I have also noticed that other home owners have begun to put obstructions up outside their property to stop these people leaving their cars

Or "Non residents parking outside my house".

OP you don't own the space in the street.

    Is there a residents association?
Approaching your local councillors might have an idea.

Getting it restricted to residents only - the cure might be worse than the disease if all visitors need permits, limited permits

Sounds like public land so, so the Gateway employees have as much right to use the space as residents.

Why don't they park CAR's here?

Why don't they park CAR's here?

Most likely costs money or is for customers only. The road in a council maintained estate cam be used by anyone.

Why can they no longer park cars on the road that leads directly to the commercial premises of AVIVA, RSA?

Its free for retail visitors, but begs the question why dont AVIVA and RSA pay for Car Parking for there staff then at ths location? Plenty of supply. (This is what other Commercial businesses pay in Parkmore Industrial Estate and other such estates around the City)

I'd say it is for safety reasons. Sight lines and all that now that the new primary school is there.

    Double yellow lines now.

Isn't it part of planning permission that they don't provide enough parking for all staff? To lile ...encourage walking and public transport.

Yup, good luck in finding that Travel Management Plan in the Galway City Planning offices - let alone overseeing that it is been implemented.

A quick word to the manager of each store would go a long way to stopping it

Hang on: neither of these businesses are retail. And they are in different parts of the park - as per this map: shops on the left, big hole in the middle, offices with Aviva et al on the right.

    https://www.google.ie/maps/@53.273582,-9.0969083,3a,75y,305.4h,74.9t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s0SIvvgNyNJpsRqbhQE3o7w!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo2.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3D0SIvvgNyNJpsRqbhQE3o7w%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D65.208466%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i13312!8i6656

The office workers cannot park in the retail park (they're not customers, and it's not all-day parking). If they come from Ballybane / the city / Westside then public transport may viable for them (depending on childcare drop-offs). If from elsewhere, not so much.

What you are seeing is the sharp end of road demand management thru car-park limitation without targetted hiring. Realistically, what do you expect the ones who cannot use public transport or walk to do - park in the inner city and bus out to Knocknacarra?

Maybe they should speak with their managers about the lack of parking... I never 100%said it was these businesses, just that I felt it might be...

    Ya forgot cycling.
It is poor planning alright, but its even worse than that.
Even if you wanted to take the #405 - the facilities are terrible at the terminus. No covered shelters. Galway City Council need to roll out more facilites(at very little cost as Adshel will provide and install the shelters). Why no shelter? 405 terminus in Rahoon is located on private property. Yet the Terminus at the other end in Ballybane is also private property. HP have provided a covered shelter for employees. Consistency eh.

I thought the National Transport Authority took over responsibility for Bus Shelters?

Anybody know the rate per car carparking space that AVIVA and RSA pay for Car Parking?

Why would they pay for any? Surely access to some parking is part of their lease?

Yes and whats the rate per space in the lease?

For example in Todays IT Business section
Kellogg to relocate European HQ to Dublin Airport Central
    https://www.irishtimes.com/business/commercial-property/kellogg-to-relocate-european-hq-to-dublin-airport-central-1.3610074
    "
Car parking spaces will cost an additional €1,750 per space.
