Block unused chimney

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me the effect on a BER rating would be if I block three unused open chimneys and have 100% led lighting?

The current BER result was E1 302.45 kWh/m/yr 6% low energy lighting. I already had 300mm roof insulation, double glazing, insulated walls and a combi condensing boiler at the time of the test so the above are the only affordable options to increase the rating.

I did put this in the BER thread but got no response so am chancing putting it here instead.

As long as the chimney is there, it has the provision to be used so I think it has to be accounted for in the DEAP calculator.

Thanks for replying. There is actually three chimneys! I was going to cap them on top and block them with insulated plasterboard with a small vent but if it will little difference then I won't bother.

I am selling my house so just want to get out of the E BER category. As I am at 302.45 I only have to achieve a gain of approx 3 to bring me to D2. Do you think installing all Led lights would do that?

Also, while I have you, my boiler service print out showed 98.6% efficiency but the tester entered 91%. Do you know if the efficiency is reduced based on other criteria eg the open chimney?

Talk to the assessor, ask him what differences will be achieved if he changes the DEAP input and see if it actually changes the rating to what’s required.

Will do. I didn't realise he would be able to edit the original report to gauge the effect of an upgrade. Thanks for your help.
