The Old Classic Cinema Harold's Cross

Does anyone else think it's an awful shame the old classic cinema building was knocked down given how well the stella cinema is doing now since it was refurbed.

As far as I know it's still an empty site (I don't live in Dublin anymore so can't verify this) even if the building was still there, someone with deep pockets could've done a refurb job, would've been amazing to see that open again.

I'm not sure there was anything of particular architectural merit about the Classic (although god knows I spent enough Friday nights there in my teenage years at umpteen Rocky Horror Shows :D).

The Stella was/is an art deco classic (and undoubtedly a money pit!)

Fair points, looks like the stella is making money , the fact they have a bar and food now

The Rocky Horror Show was some fun.
The building has been flattened now. I don't think it would be commercially viable as a cinema due to location whereas the Stella is in the centre of Rathmines and the area has a real Kilburn Kentish town feel

That's such a shame. Last time I went there was to see Inspector Gadget. They kept the tradition of the intermission A lot of old Dublin is going, paving the way for a more modern global society. Conservation isn't used much these days, unfortunately. It's sad to see the demise of one time family cinemas.
