Report in the Journal that less than 130,000 people turned up at the Phoenix Park for the Pope's Mass.

    In 1979, 1.3m were there.

At this rate, there will be less than 13,000 when he's back again in 40 years.

I have a feeling he probably won't be back in 40 years.

To be fair, he wasn't here in 79 either :)

I’d go just to see a 121 year old say mass.

The Aer Lingus flight numbers were EI1979, EI2018 and EI2408 so might be a while before any of his successors come to Ireland according to Aer Lingus.

Just a sign of the times - a bit of me thinks the Health and Safety overkill didn't do the Pope any favours. Basically that list plus the weather told anyone not ready to do a serious hike they would be wiser to stay away.

Had the pleasure of meeting the Catholic Church at a charity do once. It was surprisingly down to earth, and VERY funny.

You can't get away with just having a big headliner these days. You need a few decent support acts.
