I was wondering if one person in a couple is mainly staying at home and earning below 7200 for the home carer tax credit. Does this also mean they can allocate their paye and personal tax credit to their partner along with the home carer credit thus increasing their net income by 1200? Or can you only have the homer carer credit or the paye credit?

so for example if one person earns 50k and the stay at home mom earns 7k, can they allocate all of their tax credits (1650+1650+1200) to their spouse and the spouse also has his own credits of (1650+1650) giving a total of 7800 in tax credits?

The PAYE credit is non transferable only the personal credit is transferable. So it's the personal tax credit and home carer which are added to the main earners tax credits.

Also- in the scenario where the spouse earns €7200 or less from employment, the PAYE credit is restricted to 20% x €7200= €1440 rather than €1650.

I was in this situation some years ago and claiming the home care tax credit.
my spouse always kept her PAYE allowance and all other credits including the home carer tax credit were on my tax credit certificate.
and as said above the spouse will only get the Paye credit which equals her earnings.
always request a P21 at year end.
