    Hi

Is it possible to live permanently in a caravan on a piece of land in the country side?

The caravan I intend to purchase is built to live year round with a hefty price tag of $105,000 excluding shipping from the US.

The last thing I want is to purchase this caravan and then discover I can't live in it.

If you get Planning for it and install a treatment system... Very Unlikely you would actually get permission for it tbh imo. What about other services, water, ESB etc? Sightlines at the entrance compliant?

Before you spend 1c get someone out to look and prepare application for it.

    Thanks for your input :)

I'm a bit confused about what you said. Do you think I would or wouldn't get planning for it?

Here's a link for the caravan:

A caravan is not a permanent habitable dwelling and is unlikely to meet the building regulations as a permanent residence so planning permission is extremely unlikely

You would NOT get permission to confirm imo is what I said.

The council have to control development, caravan or not, otherwise we would be back to what happened before and we now know that does not work.
If they permitted you then a precedent set for everyone, especially if it was appealed to ABP and they agreed with it. Free for all then. That is not an option...

Thanks for using capitals and underlining - much appreciated!

If a person wants to buy a piece of land and live a clean and simple life then nobody should have the right to stop them.

and if everyone wanted to do that the country side would be in an absolute mess, much worse than it currently is.

We must have standards for human habitation, and trailer park america is not the standard we should be setting.

Well not everyone wants to do that. Everyone is made to conform and live a life dictated by a police run state.

    You're obviously a civil servant.

    That escalated quite quickly.

It's actually the complete opposite of corruption - having the same clear and direct rules and laws that apply to everyone and protect the wider community.

yeah... stick it to the man !!! LOL

theres nothing stopping you living in a tiny home on a piece of land...

however that home requires planning permission and is required to comply with building regulations .... just like every other home in the state.

why do you think you deserve special treatment over others?

Maybe the anger comes from the rules created by governments who are only interested in Landowners , Bankers and property developers who all have to get ginormous profits and believe one size fits all , I can see the OPs frustration and the rules are always seem to be so unfair in this country , why is it always so necessary to make it so complicated and exhausting just to find a basic standard of living ? And if you rock the apple cart by questioning the rules you get slammed and disgraced .
