Has anyone been using this to send text messages (yes, I know, SMS, how very 1997!)

I had thought it would send the messages via wifi (as this was how I was connected/syncing between my phone and PC) but I still seem to have gotten charged for sending them on my vodafone account (prepay). Are my settings wrng or anything? I can't see anywhere I can chenge it to "send via wifi" etc.?

It's still an SMS so it works the exact same as an SMS sent from your phone.

It's different to imessage. It just sends the message back to your phone and sends it from there for you in the old fashioned way whether you have data or not.

Hopefully they bring that in in the future though. That is one big advantage imessage has over it.

Two people with Android Messages should be able to send to each other over data like iMessage, but this web interface is just doing everything via your phone.

Everything is going to RCS eventually anyway. It has been a lot slower to come in than I expected. The way it currently works is just a stop-gap until there's a full RCS rollout and SMS is eventually completely replaced.

I'd like to see RCS take off, it's annoying having to use different messaging apps for different people but I can't see it happening. It's too late. The world has already started using iMessage, whatsapp, facebook messenger, viber, etc. Not to mention that RCS will cost money or require you to have a plan with free texts and all the other alternatives are free.
