If you ring Anicare Vets & Raheney Vets (Dublin) they can let you know of any that need to be rehomed. A lot of people don’t know how to sex them & end up with unwanted babies.

Both practices have an exotics vet, we go to Jennifer in Palmerston, but most of the vets there are pretty knowledgeable with small furries, Jennifer specialises in them though.

Thanks so much would rather rehome than buy from petshop for that reason alone I wouldn't have a clue how to sex and there are enough lil animals needing homes.

I adopted 2 guinea pigs from <snip> - the vet there sexed them for me and did a health check.

I got a 2x2 IKEA bookcase and adapted it to a 2 level hamster cage with sliding pvc doors.

Plenty of examples on you tube or Pinterest

We moved our girls inside a few weeks ago as I was a little concerned a couple of rooks worked out that we had them.

So far we ordered an Elmato bunny house on amazon & 2 guinea pig dad fleece liners. I made some bridges/tunnels from fruit tree branches that I got from friends.

We have tons of fleece blankets as we have a dog so I’ve repurposed most of them for the girls. If you plan on using fleece bedding get a vet fleece wash bag online as they can ruin your washer plus unless you’ve a tumble dryer you’ll have hair all over your clothes.

During cuddle time they get a nice little brush down every evening.

Our girls are free roaming but they know where their area is so they don’t wee & poo all over the place. They run back and forth as needed. Ours are rescues too, bonded sisters and very cheeky. :) also really good with our terrier. A lot of people say piggies aren’t intelligent but I disagree, they work out stuff like leaving our dogs bed alone, they go back to their zone on command and know if I’m talking to one or other or both.

It’s great you plan on building your own, the pet shop cages are too small especially if you have active piggies.

My OH is besotted with one of them...The other not so much as she’s a bit of a bully.

A had been thinking of doing the same but ours use floor space a lot more than vertical so we gave in and taught ‘em where their area is so they can go where they want but eat, sleep and potty in their area.
