    Can anyone id this plant. I reckon it's a weed but it also looks like a young tree :o

    Looks like a lime tree to me but I dont know much about trees. We have lime trees at home though.

    The seed must have blown in on the wind, 'cause I never planted it.
    I might try and grow it in a pot.

    According to my amazing new tree identification app from the British Trust it is a lime tree. Maybe tilia cordata.

    That's going to be a very big tree Marge, I don't think a pot will cut it :)

    Thanks all. I'll wait and see. If it gets too big I'll try and find an appropriate home for it whether it's birch or lime tree.

    I didn't plant the seed, so can only assume it came in on the wind. It's at the side of my house so can be a wind tunnel.
    There are silver birch trees across the road from my house, so that could be evidence to back up the birch tree suggestions.

    Reminds me of a type of fruit plant, similar to strawberry or tomato plant

    Definitly Birch. They are common weeds of nursery stock or where peat based compost are used. The seed was most likley already in the compost when bought.

    Pot it up or plant directly in the soil making sure to leave enough space for it to grow.

    Definitely a birch for me, too. Lime/linden trees have rounder leaves. Like these:
