    Howdy

I’m new to PC building. Have had MacBook Pro as my main computer for last 8 years. Looking to return to PC gaming, most likely just World of Warcraft, with the scope to branch out.
Would like to max out settings in this game.

Have assembled below build on partpicker - https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/xqMFmq[/URL

    PCPartPicker part list:

If you're not going to be overclocking then you don't need that CPU or Motherboard. Just go for an i5-8600 and a B360 motherboard.

    Thanks for the feedback

    Guess it’ll reduce cost!

You could also go for a Ryzen build and that might save you even more money. You could use the money saved on a HDD as that drive you have listed will fill up very quickly.

What resolution and what refresh rate is your monitor?

If its 1080p @ 60Hz a 1080 ti is more than you will need. CPU would also be wasted at 60hz.

If you expect to branch out into other games or if you plan to have this particular PC for as long as your mac then makes more sense.

WoW is more CPU dependent so you could go with grahmers recomendation on the cpu and drop the graphics to something like a 1070 ti and still have a very good rig. Not just for WoW but most modern games.

If mostly for WOW and only at 1080p60, an i5-8400/Ryzen 2600 (and stock cooler), B360/B450M motherboard, GTX1070 will be more than enough, now and for absolute years (and even for other, brand new, intensive games too). A configuration like what you have originally picked will show zero performance gain at 1080p60 and would really just be a waste of money as both CPU and GPU would be sitting at low usage even at ultra settings on any game.

Could upgrade SSD to 500GB, that will come in hand no doubt.

Considering im playing wow at 100fps max settings on a 1440 144hz monitor with old hardware, i5 2500k and GTX970 you would be mad to invest i such hardware unless you plan to play more games ofcourse.

Thanks all for the advice, I will reel in on the specs. I would like to be able to hold on or upgrade individual components in this set up over the next 5-7 years, but I guess that’s the beauty of assembling over prebuilt.

I guess an i5 8600 and a 1070 would no doubt see me well.

I’ll be buying a monitor to go with this set up, likely to run at 1080p with as high an FPS as possible for WoW and other games.

    I really appreciate the advice.

If future upgrading the CPU is important to you then a Ryzen build is more likely to give this option (at the expense of having slightly poorer single thread performance.)

AFAIK AMD have committed to using the AM4 slot until 2020ish. By contrast Intel like to change their slot at the same frequency as their lead designer changes underpants.
