Employment Law Question

    Hi All,

Something I have had a pit in my stomach about for a long time.

I have been doing my managers job (Sean) for the last 7 years with no pay. he moved to a different job when voluntary redundancies came down and we lost 9 people from the dept. I'm not a person who likes conflict but lately I am getting very frustrated with it.

Recently, a girl (Joan) left the company and the girl under her (Mary) was given Joan's senior job. Well now Mary who was a manager lower down has said the girl (Lucy) under her should get her role and the managers job (Sean) I'm doing has signed off on it!! with out it going to interview etc. I'm wondering if he can just sign it so easily for her maybe I should be able to get an upgrade based on his role.

I just dont know what to do or how to approach it. As his sign off was only found from chat in the office. he sent it to someone else because he didnt want a certain person (not me) to see it. he knew they would kick off.

do you think I would have any case if I brought it to court? or have I left it too long. I'm a bit of a chicken but think if there is any chance at all I could get an upgrade I would grow a pair.

Bring what to court? Were you discriminated against on one of the nine grounds?

Under equality legislation discrimination based on any one of the following distinct grounds is unlawful. These grounds are:

    Gender
    Civil status
    Family status
    Sexual orientation
    Religion
Age (does not apply to a person under 16)
    Disability
    Race
    Membership of the Traveller community

Not getting a raise in wages is not illegal, it is something you negotiate.
