Hi, in the last few minutes a hawk of some type has just crashed into our downstairs window and is now lying on the ground outside. It looks like it is in a bad way, eyes are open and it's moving it's beak. It has claws/talons so that's why I'm thinking it's a hawk.

Not sure what to do - let nature take it's course and dispose of it afterwards or call a vet?

Update - he's now standing up and it's lashing rain outside. Doesn't look like he can fly. He's just standing outside our patio door looking in.

Put him in a box for now and give him a chance - he could be just stunned. I've done that in the past with birds who flew into the window in work and they were fine after a while and flew away! Your local vet is obliged to take wildlife btw..

^ Seconded. Put him into a box & place somewhere dark & quiet (and safe!)
He's likely just stunned or concussed so a little time to recover should do him the wold of good.

Thanks. I think he was stunned, as he stood up about 10 mins after hitting the window and was resting. Think the rsin also helped to bring him around. He's after flying out around to the front of the house and I've lost track of him now.

I rang the Kildare Animal Foundation and spoke to a woman there who said that her main concern would be that he's not on the ground somewhere. It seems he's able to fly so must be in one of the trees in the estate.

Fingers crossed s/he's ok - was a beauty!
